Where will the service of free exchange be available?

From 1 January 2015 you can exchange litas to euro free of charge in 690 locations.

The Bank of Lithuania (3 places) will exchange litas to euro for an unlimited period of time.

Litas will be exchanged to euro free of charge by 343 branches of commercial banks from 1 January to 30 June 2015 and by 87 branches from 1 July to 31 December 2015.

From 1 January to 1 March 2015 litas will be exchanged to euro free of charge by 330 branches of the Lithuanian Post Office and 11 credit unions at 14 exchange locations.

For those who want to save time, it is advisable to deposit cash into an account in 2014. They will be converted automatically free of charge. There will be no need to waste time going to currency exchange locations, and during the first weeks of 2015, there will be no confusion regarding litas and the new currency in one’s wallet. Those who currently have two accounts – one in litas and the other in euro – will be able to keep only one of them free of charge.
